The large, shiny evergreen leaves and oversized, white fragrant blossoms of the Southern Magnolia make it a welcome presence throughout the Deep South. The “miniature,” or Dwarf Magnolia, has narrower leaves and smaller pods than its much larger cousin.
In painting this blossom, I came to see her as a young woman, blissfully unaware of her own beauty and sexuality, visually blossoming before the eyes of all who have the privilege to know her.
